You’re being floated away on waters that taste of limestone and smell like clover. The sun is shining on your face and as you look up at a blue sky, you hear strings and guitars carefully interrupted by waves hitting a rocky shoreline. This is Afraid I Might like It, a gentle yet cinematic ode to finding your identity. The title reflects the lyrics that have a childlike innocence, along with an instrumental that reaches a euphoric climax.
Queer artist Timberly usually brings frustration and pessimism with each release. But with this song they take influence from ”soft-indie” artists like Cavetown and Dodie, along with classic rock-ballads by Heart and Nazareth to deliver an honest yet tongue-in cheek love song dedicated to themself. The track was recorded and mixed by Timberly with background vocals added by singer/songwriter Hanna Spaak, both of their gentle voices melt together around an instrumental that combines natural analog instrumentation and experimental soundscapes.
